Manager, User Experience - Beijing
Help Google create compelling, essential experiences on the internet!
We're looking for a strong Design Leader who can think strategically, while delivering on the needs of the business. You will be responsible for driving user experience projects and providing leadership for a group of 20+ Designers in an innovative and fast paced environment. You will be responsible for the overall planning, execution, and success of the projects. You will need to mentor and grow the talent in the organization, introduce processes where they are needed, and help advance the design practice at Google. You will need to build strong, credible relationships within the group and across departments. Having excellent people management and leadership skills, accompanied with expert communication skills to positively influence teams is essential.
Qualifications:
Management experience:
- Minimum 5 years experience with at least 3 years managing a large design team with company-wide impact.
- Extensive experience managing a cross-functional user experience team with a variety of disciplines.
- Must have proven success managing complex schedules and developing employees' individual objectives.
Design experience:
- Expert understanding of web design. Must have excellent design sensibilities with an eye for detail.
- Must have experience integrating user research into design practices.
- Must have experience shipping products for large consumer audiences.
- Must be able to manage many projects simultaneously.
- Must understand and evangelize user-centered design and product development processes with sensitivity to business leaders and stakeholders, and use these effectively.
Communication:
- Strong oral communication skills, excellent interpersonal skills, able to collaborate and negotiate effectively in a cross-functional team.
- Must be able to articulate and advocate design rationale.
- Must be able to establish credibility with smart Engineers, Project Managers, and Designers quickly.
Leadership:
- Must be able to motivate and inspire people and make tough decisions when necessary in a timely manner.
- Proven track record of rallying people behind a vision and make concepts tangible.
Education:
- Degree and/or advanced degree(s) in Computer Science, Graphic Design, Industrial Design, HCI, Product Design, Interaction Design, Information Design, or related field.
