are you any different from other chinese? (if so, where and how, and what do you think caused such differences?)

when years go by that we are outside china, we preserve a piece of china within ourselves the way we prefer to remember china. we may up date ourselves from time to time each time we go back there or when we talk to others who have been there

when you talk to non chinese, you feel you are chinese, when you talk to chinese, you are not so sure…the longer you stay here, the more non chinese telling you you are going to have a prob fitting back to china. and they probably right: china changes rapidly, we are not changing with them because we are not there. so when we go back, we would be looking for a china as we perceived or remembered. we then become disappointed somehow somehwat…

tell me you do not change at all when you are in a different cuntry and adopt different values and try to fit in whereever you are outside china

you will have to do the same when return to china, a different china.

now the harder question: who do you think is more chinese? the chinese chinese or the overseas chinese like yourself?

why?

i am always confused: when talking about american domestic politics, i never felt foreign but very texan in most issues, like a republican, but very liberal over other issues like the bad guys underlidership of that actor. but never felt foriegn. however each time on to any international politics, i know i am not american!

but then when going back to china, talking about chinese things we cannot comment because we do not really know what they are talking about: we have our houses, our dogs, our whatever in another country we just pass through china….when we talk people laugh: you don’t know what you are talking about.

but then, i always thought i am much more chinese than the chinese in china, those hang around the office complex or dept stores. the real chinese are on the farm, in the mountains….the traditional life style help to sustain the traditional values.

so just who the heck are you? do you know? when the plane landed in china, you feel like home, what about when planes landed in usa, don’t you feel like home or even more so?

then you think about do you want to go back to china? on what term? for what? when? and how?
