My favorite Discos in Shanghai (I)

written by 愚二 [email protected]

First of all, I recommend the article I posted, click

Park 97(CALIFORNIA CLUB), Pegasus, Mazzo,
Rojam, in my opinion, are the places you gotta go.
However, Babeface, Guandi and Real Love, which were not mentioned
in the article, are the ones we should never ignore.

I can still recall some of the weenkends 2-3 years ago. Our
adventure normally set off at Park 97, having drinks and
cigarettes, as well as prospecting “target customers”.

We afterwards switched over to Pegasus at about 1 AM, the time
Pegasus just started its hot rhythm and people began pouring in.
This scenario might have altered by now. You got to check it out on
your own.

Generally the discos and bars close down at 4 am. By then if
we still didnot felt like going home, we would be heading Mazzo.
At this final destination(have you seen this movie at midnight?haha),
you’d most likely bump into some “target customers” you had just come
across at previous places. Thus, after a bit of eye contacting(like
“hua ling zi” in Shanghainese), it could not be easier than opening
a conversation like “Did I see you at Park 97(or Pegsus)?”.

If anyone considers these “target customers” as too low-level to be
after in comparison with the OL, he’d better stay in his office with
his exquisite suit. When you are hanging out, IMHO, you have to, in
some sense, act as a person with alcohol running in your blood.

The scenario always had an ending like this, we wound up standing
outside of Mazzo, inhaling fresh air, eyes blinking in beautiful
sunshine. The only thing coming up in my mind was relieving my poor
feet. Strange to say, seat or sit never happened to be in my
dictionary during the period I was rushing from place to place.

Now I have to confess that I can no longer cope with such a big night
like that. It’s history.

Some comments on other places:

Rojam:
It consists of a large hall featuring house and techno music and
a small room for hip-hop fans. Rojam is very popular among teens.
I love it due to the hip-hop thing while most of my friends tend
to blame it as a teen place.

There are a few KTV rooms upstairs in which you can oversee the
large hall. But you will hear the noise from outside thus it can’t
be good for singing. We once put our MD player into its audio
system, playing the latest house music. But it turned out not to be so exciting
as it was supposed to be. It seemed kinda waste of booking a KTV room
out there.

Rojam has the biggest number of the pretty teens in the town, I guess.
But its house/techno/hip-hop music block most of the aged adults to
be there. We might define 25+ as aged adult here. Do you fit in this
category?

Thus you are going or not is definitely a up-to-you decision.
IMO, it absolutely worths at least a trial.

Babeface:
Located in Mao Ming Nan road.
It’s kinda like Park 97 except for no foreigners show up there, which
is good to we Chinese with an indication that not many
hookers hang up there.

It’s extremely crowded with hot chicks and other creatures.

I’d suggest you book a table in there, which however would mean
over rmb1000 expense I guess.

House music. I consider its marketing position as presenting as an
alternative to Park 97, although they are quite distinctive in many
aspects. Nowdays Park97 has evolved and represents a exotic and in place
with a bunch of “high-class” expats. Babeface, therefore, comes into a
place similar to earlier-year park 97. A smart marketing strategy!
There has to be a place for these Chinese who were just pushed out
from Park 97. Am I right in terms of the marketing strategy thing?

I have to put an end to my article right here. I got to say sorry for that
I write it in English because I gotta practice my english writing.
If you guys found out any typo or inappropriate wording, pls do
correct it for me. Your advices will be the momentum for me and
thus will lead to further article about shanghai’s nightlife.

Btw, gotta = have got to = must
got to= ?
